Notes on Adulthood: August 16

Every day we learn lessons, and that is how we keep growing. This week's lessons includes what I have learned, as well as contributions from Twitter buddies. Collective wisdom, my friends, collective wisdom.

1) Treat others as you would like to be treated. A golden rule easily forgotten.

2) A random woman (who clearly was very wise) told me this week, "The decolletage ages quickly, so always wear high SPF sunscreen daily." Duly noted.

3) @erinava said "I learned that if I want to jog, I have to wake up at 5 a.m. just to squeeze it in!"

4) @antheajk said "Do #not buy #MythofMaturity, #Borderlinedribble." Then, "This is the *worst* book by #TeriApter. Read #RevivingOphelia instead."

5) After a trip to Stone Brewery in San Diego, I learned that Mikkeller Imperial Stout, a Norwegian beer made from the droppings of civet cats, is actually pretty delicious.

What did you learn this week? Share your notes in the comments!

Cheers,

Mara

  1. I learned that there are dozens of special small moments in a day, but I just have to be more open to seeing them. This I just learned from a fellow blogger.

  2. I learned that even at my "advanced" age, I can verbally out-maneuver the foulmouthed kids on Xbox Live or B.Net - there are many not-so profane insults they just can't get yet. I also learned there are lots of parents who don't care that their little Billy is calling three 20-somethings really disgusting things at the top of his crackly voice. Oh, Internet.

  3. We learned that getting older means that going out to bar until 2am isn't as fun as sitting at home and watching tv (maybe with drinks...) and that having a baby means staying up all night, but somehow that doesn't have the same effect as going out to a bar, but you are delirious either way...

  4. I love the Golden Rule comment, it's so critical for two reasons: no reason to be a jerk, the smallest act of kindness can make a person's day. Two, I'm finding out that the world is smaller than I once thought. Never know who knows who, who knows who - you might just piss off the person you want to hire you for a dream job!
